St. Stephen Lutheran School

St. Stephens Lutheran School has been accredited by the National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA) and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-CASI). St. Stephens Lutheran School was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School in 2003 for its record of academic excellence. The pre-school program has been awarded the highest rating, five stars, by the state of North Carolina.
Students in grades 1-8 participate in the Stanford X Achievement Test on an annual basis. In comparing with the national norms, as published by the U.S. Department of Education, our students consistently score in the top ten per cent of students in the nation. Eighth grade students participate in the North Carolina Computer Literacy Test as well as End of Course Tests in Algebra I and Physical Science.
Hickory Christian Academy

An independent Classical Christian school comprised of approximately 320 students and 42 faculty members representing over 50 churches.
The vision for the school was born in a small women's prayer group in November of 1994. Hickory Christian Academy opened its doors in September of 1995 with three teachers and 19 students, renting space in the educational wing of Highland Baptist Church.

Appalachian State University Center at Hickory
The Appalachian Center at Hickory is one of four member institutions of the Appalachian State University Greater Hickory Partnership, providing both degree and non-degree programs for students of all ages through off-campus programs in Hickory, NC.
The Appalachian Center at Hickory was originally established in 2003 as HMHEC (Hickory Metro Higher Ed Center), a partnership between Appalachian State University, Catawba Valley Community College, and Lenoir-Rhyne College in collaboration with the City of Hickory and Catawba County. In July, 2009, HMHEC was disbanded and became the Appalachian State University Center at Hickory.
Degree-seeking students from throughout the Greater Hickory Metro area apply to Appalachian State University. Upon admittance, students attend off-campus programs in Hickory, NC, or study on-line, and earn their degrees from Appalachian.
