The beautiful city of Conover, steeped in history, is located in the western piedmont area, approximately at the geographical center of Catawba County, North Carolina. This neighborly city had a population of approximately 7,000 as of the 2009 census, but started out a lot smaller with its founding in 1871. The area was originally the “Y” intersection of the railroad crossing North Carolina. Conover today provides citizens with the basic quality services that include planning and zoning, police and fire protection, public works, street maintenance, solid waste collection, recycling, parks and cemeteries and water and sewer utilities.
Parks and Recreation
Consisting of eight neighborhood parks, Conover Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for mowing, planting, landscaping city properties, streets and entrances to the city to add ornamentation and provide a safer environment for citizens to enjoy. The parks themselves contain many shaded trails for meandering along and benches for sitting and enjoying nature. Several of the parks contain areas for more intense recreation.
